Headbands 4 The Homeless began in the winter of 2018 as a grassroots community service initiative. While living in Oklahoma City, I witnessed the increasing need for warmth and support among the homeless population during the harsh winter months. Although I lacked the financial resources to provide extensive assistance, I had leftover yarn from my crochet projects and decided to create headbands to distribute to those in need. That first year, I made and distributed 50 headbands.
 
In 2019, I expanded the initiative by collecting donations, raising $500 in just one week. This allowed me to provide not only headbands but also socks, gloves, and hygiene products. By 2020, we raised approximately $800, producing 80 headbands and distributing 60 fully stocked care packages.
 
In 2021, through the generosity of supporters, we raised around $1,200, distributed 100 headbands, and provided 98 care packages, with additional items donated to local shelters. In 2022, we raised over $1,500, creating 100 care packages with surplus items donated to shelters.
 
In 2023, we raised approximately $1,200, collected 75 headbands/hats and produced not only care packages but also provided clothing attire for men & women, which were distributed to the homeless and local shelters.
 
As we prepare for the 7th annual Headbands 4 The Homeless event, taking place on January 11, 2025, I aim to make this our most impactful year yet. I am seeking donations and volunteers to help us reach even more individuals in need.
